Furdy Talk is the talker function of the full version of Furdy. It contains the complete Metacom 8 symbol system.

Furdy was developed together with a day care center for people with autism spectrum disorder. The original goal was to improve the quality of communication between caregivers and clients. Furdy is the digital version of the classic tools. It contains all METACOM symbols, a daily planner, talker, timer, work plans, traffic lights, and much more. With the increasing number of integrated functions, the number of possible applications also increased. Furdy is in institutions, workshops, schools, retirement / nursing homes, support centers and co. and of course can be used in private use.

The full version includes all functions including the approx. 8000 Metacom symbols, which can be used as an alternative to photos to create maps. An instruction in text form or as recorded language is assigned to each card. These cards are used, among other things, to break down complex tasks into individual, easy-to-understand steps. These steps are then combined into a work plan. Work plan 'cook': "Put 2 liters of water in the pot", "Put the pot on the stove", "Put a pinch of salt in the water", etc. For each step, the user sees the corresponding picture and hears the respective voice output .

The daily schedule function: As with a classic daily planner, all activities for the day are combined into one plan and done over the day.

Talker function: Works like a normal talker, with the possibility of creating your own boards from the Metacom symbols and your own photos. Each symbol is assigned an instruction in text or language form, which is output when you click.

Timer function: A visual timer that shows the remaining time in color.

Traffic light function: A digital traffic light that measures the ambient volume and visualizes it in the form of a traffic light (green, yellow, red).

In addition to the digitized aids, there are other functions that primarily serve for entertainment, but at the same time should also promote the skills of the users.

A drum function trains rhythm, tact, motor skills and combinatorics.
A speech computer function enables the writing and saving of self-written texts, which can also be played back as TTS speech. Reading, writing and the phonetics of individual words and letters are brought closer to the users.
A drawing board function makes it possible to draw creative images and save them.
With the voice recorder function, spoken can be recorded and played back,
With the clicker function, several buttons and one must be touched as quickly as possible
Quiz function brings users closer to the symbols, including their meaning, and helps them to memorize them. In addition, a mood barometer is integrated, which enables users to make their current mood visible to others.

FURDY was developed through a cooperation between the "Barrier Free Systems" course at Frankfurt University and the day care center for people with autism in Lower Franconia (TAU). In constant contact and close consultation with the supervisors employed there and regular test phases of the application, it was adapted as far as possible to the requirements of the supervisor and of course the clients.
